Psychiatry Registrars are required to join this accredited training or non-training position in the wonderful north coast of QLD. The mental health service operates within an integrated model of care that provides a range of mental health services across community and inpatient settings. Within the service, the multidisciplinary approach is key to ensuring continuity of care across a network of crisis intervention, acute care, maintenance of care and extended community treatment. Interdisciplinary teams including older persons, child and youth and cultural healing represent a wide range of knowledge and skills and provide services on an individual and group basis on the wards, at community centres and in the community
This main hospital in the mental health service is a friendly acute teaching hospital, affiliated with the University of Queensland. It is set in green hills 15kms inland of the surf beaches and is only 100kms north of Brisbane. Inland lie rainforests and waterfalls, a few kilometres south the Mountains, and a few kilometres north amazing resort beaches, and beyond that, even more beaches and spectacular island getaways. The location is – not surprisingly – Australia’s favourite holiday destination.
The Hospital runs a great teaching program for junior doctors overall, with growing reputation over the past years and decades, now based in a custom-built hi-tech auditorium. The program includes grand rounds, X-ray meetings, medical, surgical, paeds and O&G meetings and telemedicine conferences. Lunchtime meetings are very popular being accompanied by excellent free food. Additionally there is a dedicated intern training program incorporating academic, bedside and procedural tuition with an emphasis on practical skills. The library offers a friendly and fast service with high speed Internet access. Throughout there is a culture of up-to-date practice and evidence-based medicine, within a supportive learning environment. Frequent opportunities to act in PHO (unaccredited Registrar) positions are available to suitable recruits.
This location is well known as one of the most desirable locations in Australia. The quality of life is fantastic, and the cost of living is relatively cheap. Junior doctors can easily afford fantastic accommodation; most doctors live by the famous surf beaches
